Goethe Garden

In the early 1980s, I began using prismatic light color mixing principles which Johann Wolfgang von Goethe describes in his book COLOR THEORY, which he published in 1810. I made many environments composed of white elements lit with extreme lighting to produce a spectrum of greys and blacks. When viewed through a prism, this environment turns into a wonderful color environment that continues to intensify upon prolonged viewing. I also made prints that were specifically designed to be viewed through a prism. The third image shot through a prism does not adequately communicate the brilliant and subtle, ever changing color as experienced in the mind’s eye of the viewer.
